Balance Beam Scale Instructions:
For accuracy, always place the scale on a level surface.
Before first use, make sure that the round weight plate and the
scoop are evenly balanced without ingredients in the scoop, and with the
weighted pointer on the zero. (If not, see instructions to re-calibrate,
at bottom.)
To weigh less than 1 lb of ingredients, move the weighted pointer
along the beam to the desired number of ounces, then add ingredients to
the scoop until the scoop and weight plate are evenly balanced. To
weight more than 1 lb, add the extra iron weight of the appropriate size
to the weight plate, and move the weighted pointer along the beam for
any additional ounces to be weighed, then add ingredients to the bowl.
To find out the weight of ingredients, place them in the scoop,
then move the weighted pointer along the beam until the filled scoop and
weight plate are even. If the filled scoop weighs more than 16 oz,
you'll need to add the extra iron weight of the appropriate size and
adjust the ounces with the weighted pointer.
Wash the scoop by hand, with hot sudsy water, rinse and dry
thoroughly. Keep the body of the scale clean with a moist cloth as
necessary. Never soak scale or leave it in a moist place, as the iron
may rust.Re-Calibration
It's unlikely that the scale will ever need re-calibration, unless,
for example, you start using a scoop of a different weight. Always make
sure the scale is on a level surface and the weighted pointer is on the
zero when checking for balance and when re-calibrating.
To re-calibrate, unscrew the flat round weight plate (turning it
counterclockwise when viewing from above), and carefully remove it.
From the compartment, remove the small round pellets to lighten the
weight-plate side, or add more to make it heavier.
If ever it is needed, a small quantity of extra steel birdshot pellets,
preferably No. 7-1/2, should be readily available from a local rifle
dealer.
